THE DESCENDANTS OF KING WODIN AND OUR DALTON HISTORY:

Some of these early spellings are questionable at best, and most of them have been submitted by people researching their own family name’s. Naturally the early dates are also in dispute.

Some of this line is from the Ancestors of the “Radcliff” family of Ordsall, Lancashire Co, England. Remember that our Roger Dalton, born about 1470 in Lancashire Co. married Anne Radcliff, the daughter of Sir John Radcliff of Ordsall. The last section is the descendants of our Roger Dalton

From King Wodin down through Gaige Dalton-Welch, born Jan. 30th 2000, Rodney Dalton's great-grandson. What is amazing about this report is that there are 63 generations involved.

The Descendants of King Wodin Odin:

1. KING WODIN, who may be a fictional King by some accounts.    Top

King Wodin of Asgard, King of Anglo-Saxons.

Died after 225 in Sweden. He was also known as Odin. He was also known as Othinus (Roman name). He was cremated.

Wodin was a great king, and a descendant of the First Men, those hearty lords that were created before all others by the Father of Earth and Stones.

He was a mighty warrior, and carried a great spear called Gungnir, and rode an eight-legged steed. His sons were all mighty warriors as well, and valiantly protected their kingdom from the Giants of the Far North. Wodin loved knowledge, and owned two ravens that scoured the world daily, returning to him at night with information. He also willingly gave one of his eyes to the Abyss, in exchange for a drink from a magical well- a well that could give foresight to any that drank from it.

In his quest for knowledge, Wodin went to the Mountain of Buri, and hung himself from the sacred tree by his own spear. He hung there for nine days and nine nights, until finally he was able to retrieve the Runes of Earth and Stones, which gave him knowledge of all things that have come, and all things yet to come. This sacrifice also imbued Wodin with the Power of the Sleeping Father, and after that day, he was as unto a god.

The followers of Wodin believe that the souls of the valiant slain are taken by "Vahlkyrs" (winged warrior women), to fight and feast in the a great hall until Ragh-nah-roke (the Second Holy Cataclysm, or "the Waking"). Often, Wodin's sons are revered as deities as well, most especially Thorr and Bahldurr.

10. CERDIC, KING OF ENGLAND     Top

was born 467 in Northern Germany. He married UNKNOWN WIFE.

Child of KING CERDIC and HIS WIFE is:

i. CYNRIC, KING OF ENGLAND, b. 525, Wessex, England.

Cerdic (and later Cynric) lead the conquest of the territory of modern Wiltshire. The Wiltsaete (or Wilsaetas, Saxons in modern Wiltshire), appear to migrate into the same territory, either independently as a result of the decaying British defensive situation or as part of Cerdic's invasion.

Cerdic avoids the established British territories to his north and east which have already set themselves up on a defensive footing (postulated as Caer Gwinntguic and Caer Celemion) and aims at securing the more 'soft' territory to the west. Unfortunately, the British chieftains there view this as an invasion to be resisted by force in battles which provide incidents that are also recorded in the traditions of the invaders. Archaeologically too, the newcomers leave more conspicuous traces of their presence in settlements that do not initially merge with those of the locals, unlike in Hampshire and southern Berkshire, the heartland of their powerbase.

Cerdic was born in Lower Saxony in 467. He lived in the northern part of Saxony on the west shore of Jutland, in boglands opposite Odense, which was a city named after the most renowned king of Saxons, Oden. Cerdic was a direct descendant of Oden and Freya, Saxon conquerors and later gods. Cerdic's father was Elesa, son of Esla, but Cerdic's mother's name is not known to me. Western Jutland was the home of the Gewissae, a Saxon tribe of Jutes descended from Gewis, who was also the ancestor of Vortigern, the British king who invited the Saxon Hengist to Britain, with unfortunate results. This was a time of transition following the defeat of Rome by the Celts, when tribes once loosely classified as Celts by the Romans were beginning to migrate, expand and form larger units in the early stages of nation-building. Hence, Cerdic, Cynric, Elesa, Esla and other related names are of Celtic origin.

In 495, the Saxon Ealdorman (chief man, tribal chief or elder) Cerdic sailed west from Jutland in 5 ships with his young son Cynric and landed at Cerdic's-ore (Cerdic's mouth), a point of land later called Caldshore, then Calshot Castle, on the mouth of a bay called Southampton Water in the area of Britain called Hampshire. At Cerdic's-ore, Cerdic battled British tribes called Welsh of the Horn (Cornwalls), and continued to move north up Southampton Water to the River Test to fight the British forces of King Natanleod, who was slain with five thousand of his men at a site the Saxons named in honour of the burial-place of the defeated king (Netley Marsh, Nettlebury).

Forced west by the British fighters of King Arthur, Cerdic once again met the Welsh at Cerdic's Ford (Charford) on the River Avon. Moving north to Mount Badon (Bath), Cerdic fought Arthur in the British king's last major victory, earning the name Caradoc Vreichvras (Cerdic Strong-Arm) of Arthurian legend. Although Cerdic was turned back by Arthur, it would become a pyrrhic victory for the British king. As Arthur tried to regroup his forces at the eastern stronghold of Fort Guinnion (Caer Guinn, Guinnii Castrum or Winchester), Cerdic moved freely through the land, defeating earlier Saxon tribes who had followed Hengist and had settled in the area of Wantage (Dog River) northwest of Fort Guinnion (Winchester), after slaughtering the Britons at Stonehenge in the Night of the Long Knives. There, in the upper valley of the Thames, Cerdic established the kingdom of West Saxons (Wessex) in 519, which centred around Wantage, birthplace of AElfred the Great. Cerdic thus became the first king of West Saxons (Wessex) in England.

Meanwhile, Cerdic's nephews Stuff and Wihtgar, who had sailed with three ships to Cerdic's-ore in 514, battled the Britons in the valley of the Itchen (Jute's River) south of Fort Guinnion (Winchester) and consolidated the Jutish territories of south Hampshire on the east shore of Southampton Water. Cerdic, having strengthened his forces with the Saxon turncoats and the fighters of Stuff and Wihtgar, battled King Arthur's forces at the plain called Cerdic's Lea outside Fort Guinnion in 527, and won the day. This signalled the downfall of the Britons and their Roman allies in Hampshire, and the ascendancy of the Anglo-Saxon (English) culture. After establishing the English monarchy at Winchester, Cerdic died in 534.

Ella was the son of Iff, Iff of Usfrey, Usfrey of Wilgis, Wilgis of Westerfalcon, Westerfalcon of Seafowl, Seafowl of Sebbald, Sebbald of Sigeat, Sigeat of Swaddy, Swaddy of Seagirt, Seagar of Waddy, Waddy of Woden, Woden of Frithowulf. This year Ethelbert came to the kingdom of the Cantuarians, and held it fifty-three winters. In his days the holy Pope Gregory sent us baptism. That was in the two and thirtieth year of his reign. And Columba, the mass-priest, came to the Picts, and converted them to the belief of Christ. They are the dwellers by the northern moors. And their king gave him the island of Hii, consisting of five hides, as they say, where Columba built a monastary. There he was abbot two and thirty winters; and there he died, when he was seventy-seven years old. The place his successors yet have. The Southern Picts were long before baptized by Bishop Ninnia, who was taught at Rome. His church or monastery is at Hwiterne, hallowed in the name of St. Martin, where he resteth with many holy men. Now, therefore, shall there be ever in Hii an abbot, and no bishop; and to him shall be subject all the bishops of the Scots; because Columba was an abbot -- no bishop.
